I continue to be amused by the cautious ways companies label and court women who are over, say, 35.
(Fara can help and so can Mary.)
Anyway this could be get interesting. Today Hyperion launched Every Womans Voice, an online community for women “at the center of life” to comment on the books they’ve read – and to write about other parts of their lives.
Of course it launched with a book that has already provoked controversy – a helpful way to start: Leslie Bennetts’ The Feminine Mistake - not this nor this other "feminine mistake". My we women can be good at beating ourselves up for our behavior.
At its core, this still seems like an economic issue as much as a feminist one. Too many mothers do not have the choice. Whether women are working outside the home or not, we are often time-starved. For women who can afford to find "help" such as for housekeeping or odd jobs, here's a way they can support other women who need the work - LaborFair. Think of LaborFair as an eBay for household services with fair trade built into the business. It goes to the heart of supporting the working poor (the majority are women) - and connecting them with people with a social conscience who want their spending choices to support their moral ones. But I digress.
Elaine Petrocelli, the co-owner of Book Passage, my favorite bookstore here in Marin and S.F. is on the advisory board of impressive women booksellers.
Voice is also a new imprint of books for women.
So women writers, would-be-authors and avid readers, go share your voice, see reading guides and visit the blog.
